I had to do some car shopping recently, because my 20-year old trusty, sweet-riding epitome of fine American engineering finally gave in... My poor old 87 Cadillac de Ville, still with arctic A/C and new tires changed only about 4 months ago, expired about a week before the summer session ended.

 

Living near and working in the city, I don't have much problem commuting without a car, so I didn't have any urgent need for car shopping, especially at the time when I must be on a tight budget. However, after renting for a week to finish up the summer session that ran the tab of almost $500, I decided to buy a new or used car even for occasional uses.

 

Besides, since the automakers were pushing for their annual model change-over, they were really all out for sale of their 2007 models. Newspapers were full of ads for their model-year end deals only until the Labor day weeked, so I called up a dealer that offered seemingly the most attractive deal...

 

I wasn't sure if I was going to buy anything that day. As most car buyers would, one don't go out there with a firm intent to buy a car... one would just shop around, and if only one finds something one likes, then one would plan to buy, not necessarily today, but just one of these days... And therefore, one isn't committed to making any decision on the spot... And that's probably the greatest advantage one havs in cutting a deal - the greatest bargaining chip... Being under no pressure of buying here and now... Any way, as you would guess, the rest is the history...
